There's always rubbish washed
up on the Drawdock here. Driftwood from the Thames is seen as a nuisance
now, but it used to be used for firewood by some people in Blackwall. I
also wanted to tie in the theme of floating rubbish to connect the West
and East London walks together; of course much of the rubbish here had come
through Hampton Court on its way. Perhaps this rubbish is a visible reminder
that the current of the Thames connects different times and places, as much
as it divides London. |
